An email alias is a separate address you share instead of your real inbox. Mail sent to the alias is forwarded to the email address on your MyShield account, so the sender never needs to know your real one.
What Happens When You Create an Alias
When you create an alias, MyShield stores a unique address against your account in its alias database.
On the default MyShield domain, aliases are generated for you automatically. On paid plans, verified custom domains let you create aliases on your own domain as well.
How Delivery Works
Standard @myshield.world aliases
Mail to @myshield.world aliases arrives through Cloudflare Email Routing and is then posted to the MyShield application for processing.
Custom-domain aliases
Mail to verified custom domains arrives through MyShield's SMTP service at mail.myshield.world, which validates the recipient before passing the raw message into the main forwarding flow.
What the Forwarding Flow Does
When the application receives a message for an active alias, it:
- checks that the alias exists and is active
- parses the sender, subject, and message body
- builds the forwarded copy sent to your account email
- ensures a stable Reply Route (Reverse Alias) is ready for paid plans
- logs the forward count for that alias
The forwarded copy is not a byte-for-byte mirror of the original inbound message. In the current product, MyShield sends a formatted forwarded email that includes the alias context and reply guidance.
What Happens if an Alias Is Paused or Deleted
Inactive aliases do not forward mail.
- Paused means the alias stays reserved on your account, but forwarding stops
- Deleted means the alias is no longer available for active use
If a message is sent while an alias is inactive, you should assume it may not reach you.
Replying from the Alias
On Pro and Business, MyShield generates a stable Reply Route (Reverse Alias) for every new sender. This allows you to reply back out from the alias address instead of exposing your real inbox. These routes are stable for each conversation, so you don't have to worry about them expiring.
On the Free plan, replying from your normal mail client will expose your real email address to the recipient.

Storage and Privacy
MyShield is not a hosted mailbox, and it does not present an inbox of stored messages inside the product.
One important implementation detail: when paid reply-from-alias is available, MyShield stores the mapping for stable Reply Routes. This ensures your conversation threads remain intact and anchored to the correct alias, regardless of how much time passes between replies.
